The Bravados (1958)

Directed by Henry King - starring Gregory Peck, Joan Collins, Henry Silva, Lee Van Cleef and Curly Joe DeRita

Gregory Peck plays a ranch owner seeking revenge on four men who raped and killed his wife. Peck can barely contain his rage, totally focused on revenge yet utterly misguided. The four men he's after are sitting in a small town jail waiting to be hung for another crime when Peck strolls into town, prepared to take them out himself. That is until his plan goes awry.

*SPOILERS* Impostor Stooge, Curly Joe DeRita plays, get this .... an IMPOSTOR! Does this man have his own identity? Can he not stake his own claim? There's something seriously evil about Joe DeRita and his scenes in this movie feel like Satan captured on celluloid, pure evil. He would have played a most excellent grandpa molester given the chance I'm sure. Also with Joan Collins, Henry Silva and Lee Van Cleef! Silva plays an Indian and steals the show whenever he's on screen. Collins is mostly annoying. The ending of this movie caught me off guard. Ambiguous and not satisfying in the typical western/revenge sense, it steals the thunder from both Peck and the viewer then rubs it in. Great stuff. Terrifically vivid color by DeLuxe!
